Tour Plan
Start your journey with breakfast at your hotel followed by a pre-trip briefing. Visit Mabamba Swamp to spot the rare Shoebill Stork. Stop at Gaddafi Mosque for panoramic views of Kampala if time allows. In the afternoon, drive to Jinja, Uganda’s adventure capital. Relax at your lodge and prepare for the action-packed days ahead. Enjoy a thrilling day on the Nile with either a half- or full-day whitewater rafting experience. Navigate exciting rapids interspersed with calm stretches, surrounded by lush riverbanks. Take a riverside barbecue lunch and continue the adventure before returning to your lodge to unwind. Overnight: 2 Friends Guesthouse or similar
After breakfast, visit the historic Source of the Nile. Drive eastward to Mbale, the gateway to Mount Elgon National Park. Meet your trekking guides and support team, and attend a briefing on the upcoming mountain adventure. Prepare for the next day’s hike and acclimatization. Overnight: Mbale Resort Hotel or similar
Transfer from Budadiri (1,250m) to Bumasola (1,770m) to begin your ascent. Hike 3 km through local farmland and communities before entering Mount Elgon National Park. Navigate the dramatic “Wall of Death” cliff ladders and trek through lush montane forest, spotting black-and-white colobus monkeys and endemic birds. Reach Sasa River Camp for lunch and rest. Overnight: Sasa River Camp
Hike 5 km through bamboo and heather zones with steep ascents. Enjoy colorful floral landscapes and scenic views while moving closer to summit territory. Arrive at Mude Cave Camp for a late lunch and early rest to prepare for summit day. Take in the peaceful alpine surroundings before sleeping.
Overnight: Mude Cave Camp
Summit Wagagai Peak, Mount Elgon’s highest point. Explore unique alpine features, including Jackson Pool, Simu Valley, and the crater rim. Spot wildlife such as civet cats, bushbucks, and duikers, along with high-altitude plants like lobelia elgonesis. Descend back to Mude Cave Camp for relaxation after a rewarding day. Overnight: Mude Cave Camp
Descend through bamboo and montane forest zones, passing the Mudange cliffs, known as the “Wall of Death.” Exit the park at Bumasola, receive your summit certificate, and transfer to Mbale for a hot shower, dinner, and rest. Celebrate your accomplishment with your team. Overnight: Mbale Resort Hotel
Drive back to Entebbe through Uganda’s scenic eastern corridor. Optional stops can be arranged depending on your flight schedule. Arrive in Entebbe in time for your departure, concluding an unforgettable journey through Uganda.
